Housing in Tucson
There are several resources when looking for housing in Tucson. UArizona partners with Above and Beyond Relocation Services which focuses on housing in Tucson and Phoenix; UArizona also lists off-campus housing on their website. The Tucson Relocation Guide will give you an insiders' view of neighborhoods in Tucson. Housing can also be found through Tucson-based rental agencies that list properties on the web (e.g. TRT Management or REDI Rentals). General housing search websites like Craigslist, Zillow, ApartmentFinder, and ApartmentList may prove useful, however, driving/biking/walking around neighborhoods and looking for "For Rent" signs often provides the most success.
If you are a visiting scholar traveling alone, check the options available for you at UA Housing and Residential Life.
Temporary Housing Upon Arrival
Airbnb is generally affordable, but prices can jump in February, due to the Gem and Mineral Show. Another option includes extended stay hotels, like Holiday Inn Express & Suites Tucson. You can also ask to send an email to Postdocs and Grad students in your new Department/Program.
