Opportunity for Postdocs to Join the UA Faculty Senate
Since 2017, the UArizona Faculty Senate has invited postdocs to be on standing committees. There are currently three committee openings for postdocs to serve on the (a) Academic Personnel Policy Committee, (b) Student Affairs Policy Committee, and (c) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (see committee descriptions below).
Service on Senate committees has several benefits that include learning about the “inner workings” of a university, networking opportunities with faculty and administrators, and high-level service entry on your CV.
How to Apply:
To apply for these competitive positions, please send an email to hoit@arizona.edu with the following attachments:
- Your updated CV
- A letter (1-2 pages) addressed to Dr. Melanie Hingle, Vice Chair, Faculty Senate, University of Arizona that describes: (a) which committee you would like to join (Academic Personnel Policy Committee, Student Affairs Policy Committee, or Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee); (b) why you would like to join the committee, and (c) your activities (research, teaching, service, etc.) at the University of Arizona.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis (as they are received).
The Academic Personnel Policy Committee receives reports and considers and forwards action items to the Faculty Senate relating to academic personnel policies (e.g., promotion and tenure/continuing status, policy and procedures, statistical report on decisions from the previous year, sabbatical and leave of absence policy, performance evaluation policy and procedures and their relationship to salaries, definition of faculty membership, and governance).
The Student Affairs Policy Committee considers matters and forwards action items to the Faculty Senate relating to the health, safety, and welfare of the student body, including financial aid, the Student Code of Conduct, Code of Academic Integrity, admission registration, residency classification, high school and community college relations, recruitment and retention policies, Commencement, and matters brought forth from the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee considers issues and forwards action items to Faculty Senate that relate to diversity, equity, or inclusion (e.g., policies that foster an environment of civility and mutual respect, issues affecting diversity from an overall university perspective, external requirements on the university affecting diversity, administration of university affirmative action grants and awards, etc.).
