Paving Your Path to Successful Careers and Relationships Through Communication: Jack Harris, February 2018
Communication skills do make a difference – they are key to conflict resolution, minimizing misunderstandings, interacting well with others, team work, customer service, dealing with differences and achieving meaningful results (in both our professional and personal lives). This presentation is for people who want to communicate more effectively, build better relationships, and understand the power of perceptions and assumptions. In other words, this is for people who want to learn practical skills they can apply to everyday, real-life situations.
Burçin Mutlu-Pakdil Selected as a TED Fellow
Astrophysicist Burçin Mutlu-Pakdil has been selected as a TED Fellow, joining a class of 20 change-makers from around the world who will deliver a talk on the TED stage this April in Vancouver. She studies the structure and dynamic of galaxies – including a rare double ringed elliptical galaxy she discovered – to help us understand how they form and evolve.
Postdoctoral Scholar Spotlight
Dr. Celina Valencia - Division of Public Health Practice and Translational Science
As a Clinton Global Initiatives Fellow in Infectious Disease and Public Health, Dr. Valencia collaborates with colleagues from University of Southern California (USC) and the University of Arizona (UA) Juntos por la salud/Together for Health Mobile Clinic to collect exploratory data on the use of novel technological platforms for the collection of mental health data.
BREAKING NEWS: Postdocs Serve on Two UA Senate Committees!
Keaton Wilson, postdoc in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, and Thomas Moon, postdoc in Chemistry & Biochemistry, have been selected to join two UA Senate Committees -- the Senate Academic Personnel Committee (Wilson) and the Senate Research Policy Committee (Moon) – for the remainder of the 2017-2018 academic year. These are both temporary positions; however, following this pilot, it is our hope that postdoc representation on the UA Senate, and/or as part of Senate committees, will eventually become permanent.
Individual Development Plan: A Key to Reaching Academic and Career Goals Workshop: April 2018
The individual development plan (IDP) provides a mechanism for ensuring that graduate students and postdoctoral scholars get the training they need to be successful in reaching their academic and career goals. This workshop covered the essentials of creating an IDP, the benefits and pitfalls of IDPs, and first-hand experiences of implementing IDPs in graduate and postdoctoral training programs.
