Last Fall, postdocs at UArizona gathered to share food and conversation. On December 9th, a few dozen of the university’s brightest minds and their families gathered for a potluck hosted by the UArizona Postdoctoral Association (UAPA) with support from the office of Postdoctoral Affairs.

Postdocs brought a variety of dishes, many of which were from their countries of origin. Dishes included crepes (with jam and eggs) from Russia, chicken stew from the Dominican Republic, and quiche lorraine from France. Prior to enjoying the food, postdocs gathered in the outdoor patio area by the Drachman building and each gave a brief description of their dish, its historical background, and cultural significance.

This festive get-together is just one example of the efforts to ensure that postdocs who choose to come to UArizona feel welcome and engaged. Dr. Jenny Hoit, Director of Postdoctoral Affairs, was very pleased with the turnout and said, “It was great to see so many postdocs gather in person. The food was absolutely amazing, and I can’t wait to see everyone again at our next event.”

There are many more events planned for 2022 that will continue supporting postdoctoral scholars in their professional development and in creating an active and congenial UArizona postdoctoral community. You can find a list of news and upcoming events under “News and Events” on the Postdoctoral Affairs website and stay up to date on professional development workshops, funding opportunities, and social activities by joining the Postdoctoral Affairs listserv.
