Congratulations to the 2026 Outstanding Postdoctoral Scholar Honorable Mention, Dr. Navin McGinnis!
Dr. Navin McGinnis is a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Physics at the University of Arizona whose research explores a fundamental question: Are the laws of particle physics shaped by the principles of information?
Working at the intersection of theoretical physics and quantum information science, Dr. McGinnis investigates whether deep features of the universe, such as symmetry and the structure of physical interactions, can emerge from principles of quantum entanglement and information theory. His work seeks to understand why the mathematical symmetries underlying modern physics are so ubiquitous in Nature.
He received his Ph.D. in Physics from Indiana University, where he studied theoretical models of yet-to-be-discovered particles. Before coming to the University of Arizona, he held a postdoctoral position at TRIUMF, Canada’s national particle accelerator centre, contributing to foundational research in particle physics.
Beyond his research, Dr. McGinnis is committed to mentorship, teaching, and public engagement. He regularly contributes to outreach initiatives and public discussions aimed at making modern physics accessible to broader audiences, reflecting his belief that fundamental science should inspire curiosity far beyond the research community.
