Postdoctoral Affairs is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2026 Excellence in Postdoctoral Mentoring Award, Dr. Hang Xue!
Dr. Hang Xue is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Arizona. He received his PhD from Columbia University in 2014 and, before joining the University of Arizona in 2016, was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and a visiting scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics. His research is in number theory and representation theory.
The Excellence in Postdoctoral Mentoring Award recognizes faculty members who provide exceptional mentoring to postdoctoral scholars, including offering intellectual leadership, creating a supportive training environment, providing regular and constructive feedback, and helping postdoctoral scholars develop independent careers. Dr. Xue was recognized for his deep and sustained commitment to his mentees' growth across all dimensions of academic life. His mentee credits him with providing rigorous and insightful weekly research guidance, identifying research problems perfectly tailored to their strengths, and offering detailed feedback on teaching that directly contributed to the mentee receiving the Mathematics Department Teaching and Service Award. Dr. Xue also went above and beyond by actively supporting his mentee's professional networking, grant applications, and seminar organizing/ His mentee describes his guidance as nothing short of transformative, shaping their development not only as a researcher but as an educator and future faculty member.
