An Editor’s Perspective on Scientific Publishing

When

3 – 4:30 p.m., March 31, 2026

This event is held by the Graduate Center.

Join Dr. Laura M. Zahn, Editor-in-Chief of Cell Genomics and former Senior Editor at Science, for an inside look at how scientific papers are evaluated and published. In this session, Dr. Zahn will discuss how researchers can prepare strong manuscripts, what happens behind the scenes after submission, and how to navigate communication with editors following peer review. She will also share insights into current challenges facing the scientific publishing ecosystem.
Although the talk will focus on examples from the life sciences, the guidance will be relevant to researchers across disciplines. A Q&A will follow the presentation, including a discussion of career opportunities in scientific publishing.
